The second webinar in the Value of Print Free Webinar series took place on February 18, 2009. It focused on quality requirements in digital color printing and the value add that having a high quality imaging system can have on your business.

The format of the webinar was a round table discussion that included commercial printing professionals and industry experts answering important everyday quality issues that printers face. The panelists included: Rick Littrell (President/CMO of Magicomm), Julie Shaffer (VP, Digital Technologies, Printing Industries of America), and Rod Smith (VP, The Imaging Group).

The educational and entertaining discussion covered a wide range of topics such as:

  • How the quality of a digital color press plays into the purchasing decision
  • How important it is for digital presses to match the quality of offset
  • The different methods used to measure quality.

Throughout the discussion, attendees were asked polling questions, with the results displayed below:

The first successful webinar in the Value of Print Free Webinar series took place on January 28, 2009 and discussed the Total Cost of Ownership of a Digital Color Press. The format of the webinar was a round table discussion that included commercial printing professionals answering important everyday cost issues that businesses face. One of the issues discussed was the most important considerations relating to cost of operations for print businesses. Other discussions included how the cost of a digital press factored into the purchasing decision, the impact on your offset business when integrated with your digital press, and how the experience of installation and training on your digital press can factor in. Lastly, the panel discussed in-line finishing and variable data printing applications.

Throughout the discussion, attendees were asked polling questions. Below are the results:

  2. How important is it for your digital color press to match your offset printing?
    NOTE: Over 64% indicated that it was important to match their offset printing capabilities. This is important when you have to do a reprint and print copies before the final offset print run is ready.

    2. Somewhat Important (25.64%)
    3. Not Important (2.57%)
    4. N/A (33.33%)
  3. How often do you have to reprint a delivered offset job at a very short run?
    NOTE: Over 50% of the attendees have some requirement to mix digital and offset projects

    3. 11-20% (6.06%)
    4. 21-30% (12.12%)

  4. How important is accurate matching to spot colors using 4/c?
    NOTE: Over 63% think that matching special spot colors is important. Given the wider color gamut of most digital color presses, the ability to hit most spot colors accurately has improved from past models. It’s always important to remember to properly calibrate your equipment to achieve the best and most consistent results.
